MBN – West Course Overview
The MBN-West Course, also known as the Myrtle Beach National West Course, is one of the finest golfing destinations in Myrtle Beach and the larger South Carolina region. Designed by action leader Arnold Palmer, the course sits on a preserved land of Carolina Pine trees with its harmonious blend of natural aesthetics providing a unique playing experience for golf enthusiasts.
Course Design and Features
The 18-hole, par-71 course measures 6,114 yards from the longest tees. It incorporates intriguing natural hazards with extensive landscaping, meaning golfers will face a fair share of challenges as they navigate this beautifully designed terrain.
Fairways at MBN- West Course are skillfully contoured, promoting a variety of shots and testing golfers’ technical abilities. The strategic layout features tight doglegs and numerous fairway and greenside bunkers, which require precision and accuracy from tee to green.
On the back nine, you can expect some slight elevation changes that further test golf skills. The course’s moderate undulation, framed beautifully by the tall Carolina pines, contributes to a secluded playing environment.
The Greens
The greens at MBN – West Course are, without doubt, its most outstanding feature. With Champion Bermudagrass, they are fast and smooth, offering an excellent putting experience. The greens’ shapes and contours are diverse, making each putting experience unique and challenging.
Hole Specials
The par-5 9th hole is a particular delight. Measuring 537 yards, it features a double fairway split by a creek and a pond, leaving players with a strategic decision to make on their second shot. Successfully navigating this hole is a satisfying end to the first half of your round.
The 18th hole provides a dramatic conclusion to the game. This par-4, 448-yard hole features a dogleg right which requires a well-placed drive. The approach shot to the 18th green, lined with trees on both sides, is one of the toughest shots on the course. The reward for conquering this difficult hole, however, is immense and a perfect end to your golfing adventure.
Facilities and Services
MBN – West Course comes with comprehensive amenities for a fully rounded golf experience. A full-service clubhouse provides a relaxed, hospitable environment for socializing before and after rounds. The well-stocked pro shop carries all the latest golf gear, making it the perfect place for picking up a last-minute essential or souvenir.
There is also a large practice facility with a chipping and putting green and a spacious driving range where you can warm up or fine-tune your skills.
On-course services include rental clubs and, importantly, a beverage cart service that ensures golfers stay hydrated and energized.
Golf Instruction
For those seeking to improve their game, the MBN – West Course offers golf instruction with PGA professionals. These lessons, customizable to accommodate golfers of all skill levels, cover various aspects of the game, including swing mechanics, course management, and rules and etiquette.
In Conclusion
The MBN – West Course offers a distinctive combination of challenge and charm. Whether you’re a golfer seeking to challenge your skills or one interested in a casual, enjoyable round, this Arnold Palmer spectacle set amidst the beauty of the Carolina pines will leave you with lasting memories. Despite its challenges, the course promises an enjoyable and rewarding golfing experience to players of all proficiency levels. It’s a Myrtle Beach must-play that lives up to, and even surpasses, its reputation.
Can’t say enough about how my game has improved since taking lessons from the PGA pros at MBN-West. If you’re looking to up your game, I highly recommend them.
Can anyone tell me about the rental club selection at MBN? I’m planning a trip there but would rather not lug my own set if theirs is decent.
Great review. I’ve played at MBN-West a couple of times myself. Can absolutely vouch for those fast and smooth greens. They always manage to keep me on my toes.
Was there last Fall, thoroughly enjoyed the 9th hole. Definitely puts your strategic game to the test!
Faced a raccoon once at the 9th hole. We had a stand-off, hope it’s still there, adding a bit of fun to the game.
That 18th hole sounds like a dream…and a nightmare. Can’t wait to try it out for myself!
Love this blog post, thanks for sharing! Sounds like an incredible golfing experience, especially the part about the Champion Bermudagrass and picturesque Carolina pines. Quick question: do they arrange lessons for juniors too? My teen son is seriously interested in golf and I’d love to take him here for some professional training.
Just played at the MBN– West last weekend! The course layout really keeps you on your toes. Schweated bullets on the 18th, near ruined a perfect drive but squeeked by with a par. And that 9th hole, talk about a heartstopper! For anyone headed there, do not underestimate these two holes.
