River Hills Golf and Country Club
Located in the heart of the Lowcountry, the incredible River Hills Golf and Country Club is a premier golfing destination, which offers a unique blend of natural beauty and challenge for golfers at all levels of play. Framed by dense maritime forests and meticulously manicured greens, River Hills offers the quintessential Myrtle Beach golf experience.
Course Overview
Designed by renowned architect Tom Jackson in 1988, River Hills Golf and Country Club features a parkland-style layout that winds through gently rolling hills and majestic pines. Measuring 6,918 yards from the championship tees, the par 72 course offers a harmonious blend of challenging golf and natural beauty.
The course has four sets of tees which make it accessible to golfers of all skill levels. The layout features guarded greens and bunkers that provide strategic risk/reward opportunities, inspiring golfers to think their way around the course rather than relying on power alone. Bundle of picturesque water features and plentiful wildlife add to the beauty and the challenge of the course.
Fairways and Greens
River Hills Golf and Country Club boasts Bermuda grass fairways that are wide and generous, encouraging golfers to unleash their drivers. The greens, however, are a completely different story. The TifEagle Bermuda grass greens are renowned for their quick speed and subtle undulations that can leave even the most experienced golfers scratching their heads.
Signature Hole
The 17th hole is the club’s signature and arguably the most challenging on the course. A long par-5, this hole requires golfers to navigate not only a tight fairway but also a dangerous water hazard that guards the green closely. The hole demands strategic planning and accurate execution, offering a thrilling challenge for even seasoned golfers.
Clubhouse and Amenities
Beyond the golf, River Hills houses a delightful array of amenities. The clubhouse, overlooking the 18th green, is a comfortable space to unwind after a round. It features a fully-stocked pro shop, elegant locker rooms, and a grill room where you can enjoy a meal or a post-round drink.
The club also offers a modern practice facility, which includes a driving range and putting green. It’s the perfect space for golfers looking to work on their short game or get some swings in before hitting the course.
Events and Competitions
River Hills Golf and Country Club also hosts a variety of events and competitions throughout the year. These include men’s and women’s club championships and other member-guest tournaments, providing members with plenty of opportunities to engage in friendly competition and enhance their golfing skills.
Course Sustainability
As a certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, River Hills Golf and Country Club has demonstrated its commitment to environmental stewardship by maintaining a golf course that works in harmony with its natural surroundings. Using integrated pest management programs, maintaining wildlife habitats, and conserving water are how River Hills safeguards the local environment.
Conclusion
Whether you’re an experienced golfer seeking a challenging round, or a casual player looking for a memorable golf experience, River Hills Golf and Country Club offers something for everyone. Its beautiful mix of strategically crafted holes, enchanting scenery, and top-notch amenities make it a must-visit destination for golf lovers visiting the Myrtle Beach area.
So, is the TifEagle Bermuda grass as tricky as it sounds? I’ve never played on it before, but it sounds like it could make for a very interesting round. Also, props to River Hills for their environmental efforts, more golf clubs need to follow suit. P.S. Any recommendation on what to order at the grill room post-round?
Just played River Hills last week and have to say, it was as beautiful as described here. As a high handicap golfer, I appreciated the generous fairways, but those greens are no joke! Fell in love with the 17th hole even though it ate half my golf balls. Definitely going to come again next time I’m in Myrtle Beach.
