Rivers Edge Golf Club: An Emerald Jewel in Myrtle Beach’s Crown

Unfolding through pristine wetlands and hardwood forest, River’s Edge Golf Club is one of the finest testaments to golfing grandeur in the Myrtle Beach area. Here, the natural contours of the land have been thoughtfully incorporated into a spectacular Arnold Palmer Signature Design that pushes golfers of all skill levels.

Location and Setting

Nestled in Shallotte, North Carolina, just a short drive from the heart of Myrtle Beach, Rivers Edge rests on a picturesque bluff overlooking one of the East Coast’s most beautiful tidal rivers. It’s notable for its stunning landscape, courtesy of Mother Nature’s finest work, which creates an enchanting golf experience. The course stretches along the waters, skillfully integrating the stunning terrain, including salt marshes, river inlets, and light rolling hills.

Layout and Design

Arnold Palmer, a golf legend, must be applauded for his skillful design of the challenging yet beautiful Rivers Edge Golf Course. This lush, stunning course stretches over 6,900 yards from the back tees and is a par-72 layout. Its imaginative routing ensures that six of its holes sit directly on the Shallotte River, while the other holes wind through coastal marshes and hardwood forest. From deep pot bunkers to dramatic shifts in elevation, golfers can anticipate a challenging variety of hazards and obstacles.

Standout Holes

The 9th and 18th holes are particular standouts, offering not just a splendid golfing challenge but also a breathtaking view of the river. The 9th is a downhill par five that plunges towards the river, and the 18th, a thrilling, risk-reward par five, stretches along the riverbank. Both holes require strategic navigation and present a memorable finish to each nine.

Playability and Challenge

While Rivers Edge is beautiful to look at, don’t let the serene appearance fool you. This course is renowned for its level of challenge. While the strategic layout demands accuracy, the variety of tee boxes (five in total) makes the course approachable to golfers of various skill levels. From professionals to amateurs, everyone will find a fair test of golf at this course.

Course Conditions

Ranked consistently among the best-conditioned courses in the region, Rivers Edge takes great pride in its impeccable Bermuda greens and manicured fairways. The maintenance staff takes meticulous care of the course to ensure it is in top-notch condition throughout the year.

Practice Facilities

Rivers Edge also features a comprehensive practice facility comprising a driving range, a well-groomed chipping and putting green, and a practice bunker. These facilities are perfect for warming up before your round or working on fine-tuning your golf skills.

Clubhouse and Amenities

Completing the golf experience at Rivers Edge is the welcoming, full-service clubhouse that overlooks the course. It comes complete with a pro shop stocking the latest golf gear, a restaurant serving delicious food with amazing vistas, and friendly staff who are always ready to assist with your needs.

Rivers Edge Golf Club truly delivers a golf experience that goes beyond the ordinary, asking golfers to use every club in their bags while rewarding them with breathtaking natural beauty. 1. I’ve played at Rivers Edge several times and I couldn’t agree more with this review. Arnold Palmer’s design never fails to challenge me while providing breathtaking views. Especially the 9th hole – the downhill approach to the river makes for an unforgettable shot. It’s the perfect balance of beauty and difficulty. Although, which hole would you say is the most challenging?

  2. Great read! I never had the chance to visit Myrtle Beach, but reading this post made me feel like I was actually there on the course (I wish!). The way you described the standout holes had me thinking about my strategy if I ever have the chance to play this course. One day, I’ll try to conquer those strategically placed pot bunkers of Mr. Palmer’s design. I’ve got to make my way out to Rivers Edge!
